Installing a new electric service is a joint project between the customer and RP&L. Residential service is defined as service to a single-family residence. Service to a multi-family residence such as an apartment or condominium is a business service.
Overhead Service
RP&L Responsibilities
- Bringing power to the proposed site (fees may apply depending on size of lot).
- Provide and install electric meter.
- Make the final connections at the point of delivery. Must be inspected by City or County Inspector.
Customer Responsibilities
- Customer contact RP&L Engineering – 765.973.7203 – for location of meter base and service requirements.
- Obtain permits & inspections (Richmond City Building or County Building).
- Customer is responsible for temporary service if needed. Must be inspected by City or County Inspector.
- Customer is responsible for providing, installing and maintaining all equipment from the point of delivery except for the meter.
- Contact City and/or County Inspector for final inspections.
- Contact RP&L Customer Service Office to open an account – 765.973.7200 ext 294.
Underground Services
RP&L Responsibilities
- RP&L provides trench for underground (fees may apply).
- Provide and install electric meter.
- Makes the final connection at the point of delivery. Must be inspected by City or County Inspector.
Customer Responsibilities
- Contact RP&L Engineering – 765.973.7203 – to determine where the service line will originate from and the location of the meter base.
- If requested, provide RP&L with:
- Site Drawings
- Load Information
- An Easement for permanent equipment owned by RP&L and installed on customer’s property
- Obtain permits and inspections (City or County).
- Contact City or County Inspector for final inspections.
